A warm rush of excitement bubbled up in her belly as the car came to a stop in the parking lot. Licking her lips, she asked, “Are you ready?”
“Are you?” His smile widened. “I can almost feel how giddy you are.”
She visibly shook. Her muscles in a quiver of pure joy. “I can’t help it. I’ve always wanted a puppy.”
“Well, let’s go get him.”
Approaching the counter of the animal shelter, Hailey’s stomach flipped and flopped with compounded elation. Never having had a dog of her own, she could hardly control her body. Even her mouth locked up, rendering her unable to tell the receptionist why she was now standing in front of her.
